This application proposes a new swing bridge road crossing over the Manchester Ship Canal and associated highway works. These would include:
The application forms part of a wider set of development proposals from Peel Holdings, which also include the Port Salford project a proposed freight terminal comprising rail served distribution warehousing, a rail link, canal quay and berths.
In addition to the Port Salford development, the wider WGIS road scheme is also designed to allow additional highway capacity for further development including the Salford Reds Rugby League Stadium, and a potential future major office and residential development at Trafford Quays.
The scheme has taken three years to come to planning committee and yet there has been very little public discussion about the affect on traffic.
Tell us what you think. Do you agree with the planners that drivers will opt for the new road rather than continue to Lostock circle?
Chair of Planning, Cllr Viv Ward (Con), said: I know what the traffic is like. I call this a relief road and what a relief it is! We need it and its going to be tremendous.

Do you share Trafford Council's confidence that the scheme will ease congestion rather than add to it?
How aware of the scheme were you prior to planning approval?
